" X-SPAM " Content Filtering Header Rules Setup

Outlook 2000

How to setup SPAM filtering on my computer and VPHosting Email account..

Using a word filter to block messages based on header information:

You can configure a word filter to check for particular words and phrases in both the subject line and message body. Be very careful when deciding on what to filter as you could easily block legitimate mail, we recommend moving your suspected mail to a different folder, instead of deleting it, because sometimes the word search catches real emails from friends. By using a SPAM folder you can weed through them at your leisure, rather than having them invade your inbox.

VPHosting labels all suspected spam based on their content with " X-SPAM " in the header, you will want to setup a rule to move all spam with " X-SPAM " in the header to a folder named SPAM, or whatever you wish to name the new folder. VPHosting "TAGS" these emails based on a compiled list of words, such as VIAGRA, XXX, m0rtgage, etc.

Here we will create a simple filter to block messages that contain the dollars "X-SPAM" which is tagged to suspected email headers.

1: Click on Tools, then highlight Rules Wizard.

2: On the right side, click the New button

3. Check Messages when they arrive

4. Select "with specific words in the message header", Next

4. double click on specific words and choose X-SPAM, OK, Next

5. Select "move it to the specified folder

6: If you do not already have a folder defined where you wish to place
e-mail that has been identified as spam, click New Folder to create a new folder. Under Folder Name, type in SPAM, and click OK

7: Click once on the SPAM folder you just created to highlight it, and then click OK. In Part 4, change the name of the rule to X-SPAM Filter

8: Verify that all settings are correct and the rule is checked then click OK at the bottom.

You have now setup a filter in Outlook 2000 that should move any unsolicited e-mail with "X-SPAM" in the email header to a folder called SPAM.

You should now review the contents of this folder to make sure everything has been configured correctly.

Send your self an email with the word " viagra ", which we have named SPAM, and see if it goes to your SPAM folder to test this setup.
